Who's on Sports Radio 1370 ESPN Locally?

Eric Kaelin - General Manager, host of "High School Game Night",  "The Saturday Sportsline" and the Auto-Owners High School Report"

Eric grew up in Champaign, Illinois, graduated from Southern Illinois in 1988.  His first job was at WDWS Radio in Champaign, Illinois where he was a board operator,  fill-in host for the Lou Henson Show/ John Mackovic Show and worked part time for TBC Sports and their college football/basketball coverage.  Eric also hosted "Illini Weekly" that aired weekly on Sports Channel Chicago.

In 1993, Eric accepted a job offer to become the new Executive Producer for WBNS-AM in Columbus, Ohio, where he spent 11 years hosting shows and covering Ohio State University sports, the Columbus Clippers, Columbus Chill, Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) and the NCAA Tournament when it was held in Columbus.  He hosted with Kirk Herbstreit, Chris Speilman and Jim Lachey.  In 2004, Eric accepted a job offer to work for 1530/1260 ESPN in Austin, Texas where he was the Program Director before moving onto Memphis, Tennessee as the General Manager of 730 ESPN Memphis and 1360 ESPN Little Rock.  In 2007, Eric accepted the job as the new General Manger of WGHN in Grand Haven for new owners, Will Tieman/ Wendy Hart.

Eric's likes - Long walks, puppy dogs, water color paintings and shoveling snow. He is married with two boys and a dog.  He's basically a shy person that hates attention.

Matt Tjapkes

Matt's father (Doug) owned the station for about 15 years in the 70's early 80's.  Matt has done play-by-play of the Muskegon Lumberjacks and is currently the voice of Grand Haven Ice Hockey, Grand Haven baseball, Muskegon Catholic Central football and does a variety of other sporting events.  Matt along with his partner (Jeff Rose) just won an award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for their 2011 hockey broadcasts.

Floyd Fonte

Floyd has been Eric's co-host of "High School Game Night" for basketball the past four years.  Floyd starred as a running back in the mid 70's for Grand Haven High School and has been a probation officer for nearly 30 years in Ottawa County.  If Floyd is speaking to your kid, chances are he's in trouble.  Having grown-up in Grand Haven, Floyd knows just about everyone and if you're in a hurry to get somewhere, just wave, don't stop because it will be 10 minutes before you can move on.

Jim Harding

Jim played for Detroit Catholic Central's 1979 State Championship winning football team and later played at Northwestern.  He turned down a scholarship to play at Boston College to play for the Wildcats. The scholarship he turned down went to Doug Flutie who went on to win the Heisman Trophy at B.C.  Jim is a basketball official and knows every athlete in town.  Jim likes to bird watch, collect stamps and work on puzzles.

Jeff Rose
Jeff has been the board operator of our High School Game Night / Game coverage for three years now and does a fantastic job.  He also does color commentary for Grand Haven Ice Hockey/ baseball games on Sports Radio 1370 ESPN.  Despite the fact he roots for Michigan, Mr. Tieman allows him to work at Sports Radio 1370 ESPN.  Jeff responded by winning award with play-by-play man Matt Tjapkes for their Grand Haven Ice Hockey coverage.

Andy Wernette

Andy is in charge of video taping our sporting events and other local events of note.  Andy is a promising singer who claims that people will be saying "Waylon Jennings Who?" when Nashville calls.  Andy is a diehard Michgan State fan and basically can't stand Jeff.

Mike Secory
Mike is a former Grand Haven football and baseball player who has coached more kids than anyone alive.  Mike has been with the station for 25 years and is our lead play-by-play man for high school basketball coverage and does a fantastic job calling the games.
